The Yoganda Project: Yoga Bag Prints

The Yoganda Project by Taozi Tree Yoga’s Founder Theresa Pauline

The first time I laid eyes on these gorgeous, vibrant Yoganda yoga bags was at The Hutong‘s annual and festive winter fayre. With so many bright colors, these bags popped out among all the other merchandise for sale and I couldn’t help but admire all the colorful patterns and and learn more about this passion project.

Started by yogi and world traveler Theresa Pauline, who is also founder of Taozi Tree Yoga, she wanted to find a self-sustainable solution to bringing vulnerable women out of extreme poverty in Uganda. A project that developed after several trips to Uganda, this is a project that remains very close to her heart as Uganda is where Theresa’s sister is the founder and head of the Musana project.

“Musana is a non-profit organization led and run by community members that creates local businesses to generate income that will sustain all outreach projects that cater towards the community’s needs. These initiatives include educating vulnerable children and orphans about God’s love while building them into knowledgeable leaders with integrity, empowering women through skill development and employment, and enlightening the community on how to live holistic, healthy lives.”

Avocado Development: Free Yoga Session in Chaoyang Park

Avocado Development Fitness Co-Founder Victor Chau Leads Yoga Session in the Park

A few months ago, I signed myself up to one of Victor Chau’s Healthy Lifestyle + Juicing workshop where he explained the immediate and long-term health and detoxing benefits of regular juicing that has really turned around his diet and lifestyle for the better. By juicing every single day, his skin has cleared, his body has slimmed down and he no longer suffers from common symptoms of fatigue. A very passionate and proactive teacher, Victor got me inspired enough to purchase a juicer.  And although Victor is a big advocate of regular juicing, he’s also a master yoga instructor at many of Beijing’s most elite yoga establishments.

Victor is co-founder of Avocado Development, a fitness and wellness consultant based in both Beijing and Shanghai that brings a variety of quality teacher training courses, tailored workshops and retreats to China and other parts of Asia.

“With a thirst for knowledge and passion for health and fitness, we share your passion in development and improvement – physically and mentally. There is so much to explore when learning about the body and movement. This can be done in a relaxing and fun environment.” – Avocado Development

Victor Chau: Juicing Maniac Role Model

For over one year now, Victor Chau has not missed a single day of his juicing regime.

Inspired by the film Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead, Victor has also seen first-hand, the health benefits of juicing every day.

“An inspiring tale of healing and human connection, FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD presents an unconventional and uplifting story of two men from different worlds who each realize that the only person who can save them is themselves.”

A year after Victor started juicing, his skin has cleared, his body has slimmed down and he no longer suffers from common feelings of fatigue. And as a yogi at Yoga Yard, he’s even seen an improvement in his yoga practice!

Charity Christmas Dinner at Kagen (photography courtesy of Nora Tejada)

On Saturday, December 10, Kagen Japanese Restaurant hosted a Christmas Charity Dinner to benefit the Disabled Chinese Orphans of BICCO (Beijing International Committee of Chinese Orphans) and with about 130 generous patrons in attendance, we somehow managed to reach our goal of raising over RMB 200,000!  That is an insanely high number because that means each person donated on average RMB 1,500!

Originally, the deal was set that for each ticket sold, RMB 500 would be donated directly to BICCO (which was already really generous of Kagen Restaurant), but in the end, owner Alan Wong generously donated ALL ticket sales to BICCO, meaning that the entire ticket sales (RMB 600 each) went to the children of BICCO.

In addition to ticket sales, we also managed to sell a butt-load of raffle tickets (raising RMB 9,400) and many silent auction prizes went for higher than it’s actual value (raising RMB 31,757).

This coming Saturday is BICCO’s Christmas Charity Dinner at Kagen Japanese Restaurant and the woman responsible for connecting all the dots and bringing everyone together in a big effort to raise RMB 200,000 in one night is the lovely and talented Amy Zima.

She’s passionate, she’s dedicated and she’s asking fellow Beijingers to come together for a lovely 10-course meal and raise a champagne glass and toast to the wonderful work of BICCO and help raise funds for their rehabilitation program in their Shunyi Service Center.
