The Hutong’s Winter Fayre is one of their biggest community events of the year and it also happens to be where I end up doing most of my Christmas shopping every year.
Most of Beijing’s Christmas bazaars and fairs have all been taking place across the city in various embassies and hotels over the past couple weekends, but The Hutong’s Winter Fayre is the LAST Christmas Bazaar of the year and it’s taking place this Saturday, December 12th from 11AM-4PM.

It’s Christmas in July: Aussie Meat Pies are BAAAAACK!
When Two Guys and a Pie closed down their doors of their little pie shop in the little alleyway behind Sanlitun (across from Nearby the Tree and just east of Mr. Shi’s new snazzy Sanlitun shop), we all shed a tear of deep, deep sadness.
But as of today, co-founder Matthew Wong has just released the breaking news that they have re-opened a little shop on the same street just between Mr. Shi’s and Tiger Mama. That’s right people, it’s time to open your pie hole and start chowing down on all your favorite pies. Oh, how I’ve missed that Sweet Tweet Pie (for those who are unfamiliar with Two Guys and a Pie’s catchy pie names, this is their pie with Golden Honey Soy Chicken filling).
And to celebrate this very special occasion, starting this Friday (today!) they’ll be selling Aussie beers all weekend for only RMB 20 to help you wash down all that pie-loving goodness. The perfect Aussie combo.

theBeijinger Hosts Over 30 International Food Vendors
Foodies unite! theBeijinger is launching their first ever International Foodie Weekend, a F&B extravaganza taking place this weekend (May 30-31 from 11AM-8PM) at Galaxy SOHO (southwest of Chaoyangmen Subway).
They’ve signed up over 30 international food vendors – from pizza to Portuguese, American BBQ, Aussie Meat Pies, Greek, Indonesian, Mexican and plenty of decadent desserts, they’ve covered many of their favorite international eateries in Beijing. And to showcase some specialty Chinese bites, they’ll also be featuring Asiniuniu‘s Yi minority cuisine from Liangshan in Sichuan and Susongfu‘s traditional Shanghainese shengjianbao.

LumDimSum & The Hutong Host their 2nd Annual Cookie Monster Bake-Off!
Cookie Monster’s DREAM-COME-TRUE, the 2nd annual Cookie Monster bake-off’s display of drool-inducing cookies was unparalleled in both talent and creativity.
Having taken place this past Saturday, March 14, the event was co-hosted by LDS (yours truly)+ The Hutong featuring 19 different baking contestants (18 of which were brand new to sign up!). These were the baking finalists who made it through a tough screening process in order for us to present the best of the best cookies we could find.

Snapshots from JUE’s Creative Market
Yesterday saw one of the most popular JUE 觉 Festival events thus far – their Creative Market featuring over 80 food and creative booths! This family-friendly event drew in massive crowds to LANNG Art Center (just southeast of Guomao) and was a weekend highlight for many.
Running between The Bookworm’s Literary Festival events and other happenings around town, I was only able to swing by for an hour in the later part of the afternoon to check out the many creative stall, snap a few photos and grab one of the very last Nori Bagels by Migas + Traitor Zhou‘s (something I’ve been keeping my eye out for all week – see pics below).
In addition to all the creative and boutique vendors selling unique gifts and crafts, they also hosted workshops that introduce participants to: Contact Improv, Salsa dancing, Poi, NIa, along with musical performances, square dancing and body-painting. From what I saw, square dancing with the Yellow Weasels was a big hit and of course all that great food – Cuju, Rager Pie, Big Bear Baked Goods, etc. I’m actually relieved most of the food was sold out by the time I arrived as I definitely would have gone to town at each and every stall if I had the stomach space.

Celebrating Home-Baked Pies and Crafty Beer Creations
This coming Sunday, December 7th, The Hutong Community & Culture Center is hosting one of my all-time favorite events: Pies & Ales Night which brings together two independently awesome things that pair together for an even more remarkable match-made-to-be.
Homemade Australian meat (and dessert!) pies come courtesy of Two Guys and a Pie will be serving up loads of their popular classic “Slow-Loving Aussie” meat pie made from 100% pure beef brisket, fried onions in a slow simmered, homemade beef reduction, their popular Honey-Soy Chicken Pies, Chicken Cream Sage Pies, a vegetarian option and, last but not least, their irresistible sweet apple pie to top you off for the ultimate pie feast.
