Comedian Ruben Paul

Comedian Ruben Paul Returns to Beijing with Kung Fu Komedy

Ruben Paul’s performance in Beijing in 2014 had me laughing until my stomach hurt. His recollections of childhood scenarios growing up in California trying to fit in were easy to relate to, but his stories about his Haitian parents still stick out in my mind as some of the funniest skits I’ve ever seen.

A fellow Californian, Ruben was born in one of the most diverse cities – Carson and lucky for all of us, he was given the gift of storytelling and the ability to relate to anyone no matter where you are from.

“I grew up in an all black neighborhood, went to an all Mexican high school, went to an all “white” church and shopped at a lot of Asian stores,” he quips. Being the youngest child of Immigrant Parents from Haiti, but the only one born in America, gives him a very interesting perspective on life. That upbringing is the foundation of Ruben’s universal appeal.”

Glenn Wool Comedian

From Canada to the UK and now US, Comedian Glenn Wool Stops in Beijing for One Night

Originally from Vancouver, Glenn moved London where he made his name in the international comedy circuit there, traveling the world from Singapore to Holland, Dubai, and South Africa. He’s currently living in Los Angeles and is often performing at summer music festivals and has had many TV appearances along with podcasts by Marc Marons WTF?, Richard Herring‘s As It Occurs To Me, and The Late Night Comedy Show for Radio 1.

Known for material ranging between sagely political and delightfully silly, you’ll find Wool discussing both the pop group Franz Ferdinand and the Pope‘s contribution to cryogenics programmes during a performance.

“Glenn’s a well traveled comedian and has the material to reflect it. We’re talking about everything from swan fucking to the Pope. He’s Canadian, worked in London, lived in California, and has seemingly been everywhere in between, so he’ll work really well for Beijing’s international audience.” – Anthony Tao of Beijing Cream

DC Benny Comedian

Though D.C. Benny’s Comedy Central gig was one of the highest rated of all time along with being the top 8 comedians in Last Comic Standing, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen him in one of his many appearances on NBC’s Law and Order (I’m pretty sure I’ve seen every episode twice).

And if you’re from the U.S. of A., chances are that you recognize D.C. Benny too.

Not only is this guy the face of national commercials for Verizon, Dell, Volkswagen, and Wendy’s, he was the main character in Budweiser’s “How You Doin’?” Superbowl ad campaign. And though I’m not sure you’ll admit to watching this show, he’s also had a long run on the never-ending soap series As The World Turns.

“We love Paul [Ogata] so much we even put on 2 shows. We have a special guest MC this weekend as I am in Ireland, so [Comedy Club China’s] David Fertitta will be hosting. Sheng Wang

The Humor Section Hosts Taiwanese/Texan Comedian Sheng Wang

For the first time, The Humor Section is hosting a Monday night stand-up comedy show (normally it’s a Friday night). Get your week off to a laughing start with this upcoming stand-up comedy show at The Bookworm from 8PM-10PM.

Created and organized by Irish-American Comedian Des Bishop, this month’s headliner is Taiwanese/Texan Comedian Sheng Wang.

“It’s time to cure the Monday Blues! Which is really a way for me to try and make a Monday show sound fun. But we have a rare chance to host a serious up and coming Comedian over from the U.S. and this is the only day we could get him. We did not want to miss out on the chance to have Sheng Wang at the Humor Section. So on Monday the 22nd we are anticipating a real cracker. I mean come on a Taiwanese/Texan Stand Up in Beijing seems a real recipe for unique stand up. Talking about a clash of ideals! I personally can’t wait.” – Des Bishop, MC and Creator of The Bookworm’s Humour Section
