From a teeny, tiny little taproom on Dongsi Batiao, Slow Boat Brewery has decided to go the other extreme with their new flagship brewpub in South Sanlitun (across from the new Intercontinental Hotel) with a gigantic 3-story building with a bar on each level and a grand total of 36 taps (4 taps on the first floor and 16 taps on the 2nd and 3rd floor). Not only is this is huge game changer for Slow Boat Brewery, this new brewpub now takes the title for biggest brewpub in Beijing.
More than just a new flagship location for Slow Boat, this also marks the first branch where all brewing will be done on premise and their 18 brewing tanks are in full view like an open kitchen for their brew process.
“Beer brewed on premises will be consumed on premises directly from the tanks or from freshly filled kegs. Twenty different beers will be available – some only at the Sanlitun location. All water used on premises goes though a reverse osmosis filter before usage. Over three floors there is a total of 18 brewing tanks with an annual capacity of 2,200 bbls or over 550,000 servings.” - Slow Boat Sanlitun Flagship

Obentos: New Liangmaqiao Branch + New Dining Concept
Since the opening of their second branch in Liangmaqiao’s Grand Summit shopping center, healthy Japanese restaurant Obentos is upping their game with “healthy” dishes never looking or tasting this damn good.
For all my fellow bento-pushers out there, fear not. Obentos’ signature bento lunch boxes, gorgeous salads and healthy smoothies are still there, but there’s now a whole new menu of delightful dish creations ranging in size and categorized into: 6 small plates, 6 main plates, 6 sides plus 2 desserts.

Modo Celebrates its 5th Anniversary with an Updated Menu!
We recently had the pleasure of being invited to Modo‘s 5th anniversary party where we toasted to their success and tried out their new, updated menu.
Modo has survived some and thrived where many others have not. Reaching the 5 year mark in Beijing despite the fire regulations forcing a major renovation in Taikoo Li is a worthy achievement and long may it continue!
While we’ve always stuck to a handful of tried and true items on Modo’s healthy menu (their Quinoa Salad with Warm Roasted Veggies (RMB 68) is an all-time fav), we were delighted to try a few new dishes that are designed to warm you up this chilly winter season!

Obentos Releases New Summer Menu Specials!
Obentos has done its Spring cleaning. After updating their smoothie menu, they’ve also completely given their food menu a facelift with both brand-new and revised signature salads, bento boxes and an awesome grain bowl addition (pictured above)!
In anticipation for summer months, they’ve incorporated a lot of seasonal ingredients into their menu choices, which has re-vamped their menu almost entirely. But even though they’ve shrunk their menu options, Obentos regulars can rest assured that they’ve maintained their principles and dedication to healthy meals by narrowing their focus and really boosting each dish with greater taste and nutrition.
“For this summer we have created a bunch of new dishes with our typical signature Obentos health twist. Expect fresh whole foods packed with flavour that will help you tackle the summer heat and make you feel good from the inside out.” - Obentos

Napa Artisan Cooking Brings California’s Healthy Eating to Beijing
A couple weekends back, Napa Artisan Cooking hosted a few foodie friends for a few nibbles of their signature bites and a few sips of the organic wines by Australian Natural in their new spot on Chunxiu Lu (just northwest of the Gongti intersection). Having tried for months to unsuccessfully nab a reservation to one of their raved about weekend brunches, I was glad for the opportunity to finally chat with Andrew and Colin about their gourmet food deli and take-away concept and learn more about their grand master plans.
