To turn your attention away from the nauseating election results in the US of A, I am going to tantalize your taste buds with a nordic specialty by a country that has their shit together.
“According to the World Happiness Report, the Scandinavian nation that is Denmark has been rated the happiest country, and has been in the top 3 ever since the survey began. The combination of a long and healthy life expectancy, freedom to make your own choices and a noticeably higher level of generosity and trust than other countries, makes this fact about the colourful country, Denmark unsurprising. Not sure about you, but we’re thinking of packing up our things and eloping to Denmark immediately.” – MOKA Bros Team
So as we consider turning our backs on America for obvious reasons, the talented team at both Moka Bros and the Georg have made a very smart move to join forces to host this pop-up event featuring savoury smørrebrød aka Scandinavian open-faced sandwiches that taste as amazing as they look.
On a little side rant, I have never understood the point of having another piece of bread other than the fact that it makes a sandwich more take-away friendly. But that’s the point of an open-faced sandwich. Danes know how to enjoy their food and calling this a “type of sandwich” is already very misleading. A smørrebrød is not something you want to grab on the run. Trust me, this is worth sitting down and savoring.

Particles Kitchen Falls Short on Big Promises
Always on the look out for new restaurants to try, we heard from a fellow foodie birdie that Particles Kitchen (PK) was a fresh new spot in Sanlitun’s Nali Patio with a very reasonable lunch set and soft-opening discount specials. She went for lunch and had the Smoked Salmon Salad. Reported back that it was a bit too sweet for her taste with mango dressing in addition to fruit in the salad, but she thought the portion was a decent size for a light lunch. For those who like a more substantial lunch, she said they also offer a combo lunch deal – where you can have your protein of choice along with your choice of sides (which are displayed for viewing pleasure).
With a bright and airy space and industrial feel, we were excited about the discovery of a hip new spot and keen to get the full dinner experience.
Coming during their soft opening period, note that our dining experience at PK may not be representative of the finished product. On our visit, we noticed that they have quite different menus for lunch and dinner – lunch is “casual” and dinner is “fine dining” so our dinner experience may also not be representative of a lunch at PK either.

Mosto’s New Head Chef Juan Mateus from Bogota, Colombia will Tantalize Your Senses
A magical place decked out in candles and twinkling lights, Mosto is one of my top picks for a warm and cozy winter treat. And with the welcome new addition of a passionate head chef Juan Mateus (photo above) from Bogota, Colombia in their kitchen, foodies all over Beijing will be snatching up every last seat in a heartbeat.
If I do say so myself, Mosto is a spectacular spot for the BJ FOoDiEs team to have secured for one of their last monthly dinners of 2015! *Save the date: Sunday, November 29th!

Moka Bros Opens its 3rd Location in the CBD
CBD denizens rejoice!
After just recently celebrated their two year anniversary with a whole lot of tattoos, Moka Bros has just opened up a new store in The Place Shopping Mall, officially since last Wednesday, the 28th of October. Located just opposite Central Park on the Eastern most side of The Place, it is in a prime position for those of you in Guomao looking for healthy lunch and dinner options.
“We’re excited to join this area of families, offices and embassies, and offer something healthy for the citizens of the CBD. In an area where it’s so common to see suited up men and women running between meetings or picking up kids it’s important to remember to take a breather and refuel your body with superfoods and goodness.” - Chef Daniel Urdaneta

Celebrate Moka Bros Tat-Two Anniversary with Beets, Beats & Body Art!
This coming weekend, October 17-18th marks Moka Bros two year anniversary with a long-life commitment to their brand with body art. That’s right, I’m not talking about the 3-day stick-on tattoos that eventually fade away or have to be scratched away, this is the real deal.
“Moka Bros. A Source of Life. And Eternal Bad-assness.”

Pak Pak Takes Over Jing-A’s Kitchen
Home of my choice Thai in Beijing, Pak Pak is branching out from its venue in the CBD (just across from the back entrance of The Place Shopping Mall) to take over Jing-A‘s kitchen for one night only this coming Thursday, August 20th from 7PM onwards.
Part of an ongoing series of “Kichen Takeovers”, 京A previously hosted some of Beijing’s most beloved restaurants to mix things up in their kitchen. From Moka Bros Arepera night complete with a beauty pageant to Hagaki (East Hotel)‘s Japanese night with sumo wrestling blow-up suits, I’ll be looking forward to see what Pak Pak has in store for their kitchen takeover. Though I’m sure they’ve got some good surprises up their sleeves, you can count on Pak Pak to start things off right by heating up 京A’s Kitchen with some bold and vibrant Thai flavors.
A set dinner menu inclusive of various Thai curries to choose from, two veggie sides and a dessert, this menu was designed to match 京A’s hoppier beers like the Flying Fist IPA, but according to my inside sources at 京A Taproom, they’re already working on an infusion beer specially for this event.
