Rechenberg Spring/Summer ’12 Runway Fashion Show

Posted: May 1st, 2012 | Author: LumDimSum | Filed under: Fashion | Tags: Embassy of Luxembourg, Fashion, fashion show, Kathrin von Rechenberg | Comments Off

Presenting Rechenberg’s Spring/Summer 2012 Collection (photography by Jennie Kang)

I first had the privilege of meeting courtier designer Kathrin von Rechenberg almost two years ago in an interview set up by 360fashion.net. It was a chance to sit down, face-to-face with Kathrin herself and gain a better understanding of the painstakingly meticulous detail that goes into each of her creations and the value of her signature fabric, tea silk. A rare and unique fabric, tea silk dates back to the Ming dynasty where the creation process alone is a 30-40 step process used with organic plant ingredients and uses nature’s very own water, sun, and sand to create it’s natural luster, that only becomes more beautiful with time. (Click here for LDS’s previous introduction of Rechenberg Fashion Line)

“Sublety and understatement are the hallmarks of Kathrin von Rechenberg’s style, combined with the technical excellence and meticulous attention to detail that are evident in every shaped, supple garment produced in her Beijing atelier.”

Originally from Munich, Kathrin von Rechenberg was trained under top Paris couturiers such as Jean-Louis Scherrer, Emanuelle Khan, Christian Dior, Christian Lacroix, and Chanel.

Having her own label in Beijing for over a decade, Kathrin von Rechenberg most recently released her Spring/Summer 2012 Collection at the Residence of the Embassy of Luxembourg.

The Residence of the Embassy of Luxembourg

Rechenberg presented her latest couture Spring/Summer 2012 collection in the refined gardens of the charming Embassy residence. Her newest collection features “gossamer light” fabrics – stone-washed silk, blends of silk jersey with linen, transparent tea-silk organza and her trademark signature fabric, tea-silk.

“This collection is all about innovation. Directional seams, contrasted over-stitching and fine leather piping all find their place in the latest couture collection. The colour palette is rich in contrasts drawn from the earth and sky. Cinnamon and powder blue extend to shades of the desert…to bright Summery orange and cool blue.” - Rechenberg Spring/Summer 2012 Collection Press Release

Rechenberg’s style is consistent throughout her collections and this most recent runway is no exception. Stylishly simple and elegant, her brand’s faithful followers will appreciate that this collection carries all the trademark signatures that define the Rechenberg brand.

AFF 2011: Erdem’s Psychedelic A/W 2011 Collection

“Inspired by the likes of Jackson Pollack and Cy Twombley, artists whose wives were strongly influential in their work and lives, Erdem takes his collection to a level of sophistication and dark maturity.”

With several accolades under his belt including the prestigious British Fashion Council Fashion Fund award, Royal College of Art graduate Erdem Moralioglu‘s unique use of print has been widely celebrated by fashion insiders.  His ability to incorporate graphics effortlessly into each collection makes each piece both whimsical and unique.

Based in London, this Canadian designer is known for his signature graphics and this collection features intricate lace work and “psychedelic prints”.  Part of the impressive line-up of international designers featured at this year’s Singapore Asia Fashion Exchange (AFX)’s Audi Fashion Festival, Erdem showcased his newest A/W 2011 collection.

Described as “fragile with dishevelled sex appeal”, Erdem’s newest Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection sees a vibrant palette of greens and blues dripping with fuchsias and reds.  Known for his graphic prints, Erdem’s signature flair for merging prints, fabrics and textures is prominent in this new collection.

“Elegantly slim and cut close to the body, Autumn Winter 2011 is modestly provocative.  Dress hemlines drop to fall mid-calf, plunging necklines and deep open backs replace the crew-neck looks of spring. Spaghetti straps and dresses split to the thigh are suggestive of a sense of undress. Mixing evening-wear and day-wear in random contrast, printed stretch cotton skirts are paired with button-down shirts and chunky cable knit sweaters while a floor length silk column skirt is combined with a chiffon blouse with printed sequins. Meanwhile velvet and silk chiffon evening dresses, bound at the waist, flow effortlessly.”

Versace Spring 2010 Fashion Show

Posted: April 3rd, 2010 | Author: LumDimSum | Filed under: A Day In My Life, Fashion, Special Events | Tags: candy&caviar, fashion show, Versace | 3 Comments »

Screen shot 2010-04-03 at 4.03.55 PMVersace’s Spring 2010 Fashion Show was hosted last night at D-Park in the 798 area.  The all-black venue was packed with a very diverse crowd with sightings of a few Chinese actors in the front rows (I only recognized a couple faces, one being actor Russell Wong from Joy Luck Club).

IMG_0876Most attendees go to fashion shows to critique and check out the brand’s newest collection pieces, but I found myself paying closer attention to the production of the show and who was in the crowds. After the candy&caviar fashion show last week, I was much more fascinated by the logistics of what puts the show together than the show itself. From the lighting to the music, the opening and the closing and everything in between, I could not help but take mental notes of everything that was going on, least of all the clothing.

Last year, Versace’s fashion show was hosted in the center courtyard of the Legation Quarter aka Ch’ien Men 23 where the show’s production alone cost something crazy like RMB 25 million and their list of guests included A-List actors like Jet Li and even Donatella Versace herself was there.IMG_0867

This time around, the show seemed much, much smaller in production and scale. The guest list was random, if not non-existent with people bringing their kids, students wearing their track suit uniforms, no dress code at all.

You can also imagine my reaction of sheer horror when one of the models in the first runway show lost her footing and stopped THREE times in the middle of the runway to adjust her shoe. The poor, poor girl. It was painful to watch to say the least. Not to mention, an event manager’s worst nightmare.

Luckily, I got an extra close look at the collection with front-row seats the second time around as they ran the runway show twice (the first time for real and the second time for movie filming purposes).

Overall, Versace’s Spring Collection is very vibrant and youthful. The women’s collection screamed Spring with pieces in colors like bright neon green and teal, pastel purple, and bright yellow. The collection’s pieces mixed spandex with plastic, geometric prints and completely open back tops .  There were also a few black and white print dress suits featured in the mix, but of course they ended the show with their gorgeous high-slit, flowing signature gowns.

Check out Stylites.net for Nels Frye‘s photos from the Versace Show here.

Versace’s Spring 2010 Vibrant and Youthful Collection:

Screen shot 2010-04-03 at 4.15.16 PM

While the women’s collection was very strong, the only image I can remember from the men’s collection were the long tunic flaps hanging out from the backside of the suits. A strange and unflattering look for men.

Overall, Versace’s gowns stole the show!
