Cuju is a Miracle Find: Rummery + Sports Bar + Authentic Moroccan Cuisine
Clearly a labor of love by Beijing personality Badr Benjelloun, Cuju is looking better than ever with their new renovations and a new menu to reflect their ever-popular Sunday Casablanca Moroccan feast nights.
Tucked away just southwest of Beixinqiao, it admittedly is a bit off the beaten path, but it’s really not that difficult to find (see map below) and it’s absolutely worth the effort of finding.
When I put the message out to a handful of friends that I planned to organize a dinner feast to see how far we could eat our way down Badr’s new food menu, my reservation for 4 quickly turned into 14 without any effort at all. From what I gathered, people have all heard nothing but good things about Cuju and though it’s been on their radar for some time, it just needed a little nudge to get the ball rolling. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of taking the time to book in advance and organize a group outing (since most of us who got together don’t actually live in the hutong hoods of Gulou). Though Cuju prides itself on its sports screenings and its vast rum collection with a selection from all over the Caribbean islands, South America, Europe and Asia, I’m all about Badr’s fine-crafted menu of authentic Moroccan classics. But before we get ahead of ourselves, I’ll begin with their crafty cocktail selection and house-infused rum shots!
