Meet the Talented Author of Quitting the Grave at The Bookworm on April 15th!

I first became friends with the talented writer, photographer, filmmaker named Doc after listening to his very moving personal story at one of the first sessions of The Bookworm‘s Storytelling Nights. Not only was the story told with a coherent running plot, I was completely captivated by his subtle, yet incredibly powerful storytelling technique. After the storytelling session, I felt like a nervous groupie as I got up the courage to go up to Doc just to say thanks for sharing his story. I’m not sure exactly what happened next, but it wasn’t long before we started exchanging two of my favorite things – books and restaurant tips. While he lent me “The Shadow of the Wind”, I gave him “Nothing to Envy”. He introduced me to a handful of his favorite vegan restaurants in town and I introduced him to Tribe Organic. And eventually, I somehow managed to recruit him (an actual professional writer!) be one of my guest writers for a handful of LDS posts!

And thus began our life-long friendship that led me to become one of his biggest advocates for his recently self-published novel Quitting the Grave.

I still remember when I got my first copy last year and feeling the pressure to read through the 400+ pages and praying that I’d be able to finish the book and tell my friend that I genuinely liked it. I remember feeling massively relieved a quarter of the way through the book when I couldn’t put it down and was delighted to not only tell Doc that his book just jumped to the top of my favorite books of all time, I was also able to genuinely recommend it to everyone I knew.
