Chinese New Year of the Snake

新年快乐!亿事如意!

Wishing one and all a very happy Chinese New Year!

May you eat your fill of dumplings, light off your fill of fireworks (hopefully the pretty light ones and not just a bunch of crackling noise poppers), and drink enough bai jiu to put you through a sleep deep enough to sleep through everyone else’s deafening fireworks. (Here’s everything you need to know about where to purchase fireworks or buy fireworks on Time Out Beijing’s Boom Boom! article.)

If you’re looking for gifts, sweets or extra ways to get in the spirit of the coming Year of the Snake, rest assured, there’s plenty to keep you busy in Beijing!

AnyShopStyle.cn Launches Aijek Womenswear Label

Aijek Fashion Label Launches on AnyShopStyle.cn

I first discovered Aijek fashion label a few months ago when I got stuck tagging along with a few shopoholic friends who went a little crazy going in and out of as many of Shanghai’s boutique shops as possible in a day.

Maybe they have the excuse of being a bit deprived of good shopping in Beijing, but it was a long day of shopping. I was tired and completely uninterested in 99% of every item of clothing we saw in practically every single store we walked into until we ended up in a tiny little store that happened to carry Aijek.  I pulled out a dress that caught my eye and decided to give it a go and try it on (out of boredom more than anything else).

What totally caught me by surprise was how well the dress fit me.  I expected it to be too big and too loose in all the wrong places. I really did not expect it to fit my petite frame perfectly, which is something that rarely happens.

Justin Timberlake is bringing sexy back wearing candy&caviar

Spotted at a Laker’s game in candy&caviar‘s Dayton Grey Denim Button-Down, Justin Timberlake was on fire.

Pictures are all over the internet of him standing up and cheering courtside, high-fiving/chest bumping/hand-signaling Kobe Bryant advice…ok, maybe I’m exaggerating his interactions with Kobe but JT was everywhere looking damn sexy proudly sporting candy&caviar.

Wear-and-Tear is an awesome accessories brand  collection I became acquainted with last year thanks to Beijing’s fashion queen Alice McInerney.

Now that she’s launched AnyShopStyle.cn, she’s got the inside scoop on the new spring collections by Hong Kong brand Wear-and-Tear.

“Building upon designer Cheung Lik’s iconic layering techniques, the latest looks merge a new fusion of hobo and urban aesthetics to the label’s signature handcrafted jewellery line by mismatching various contrasting elements and colours. Delicately embellished chains are interwoven with vibrant thread-work, metallic leather and multi-coloured nylon cords. Guaranteed to add edge to your springtime style.”                                          – Alice McInerney, founder of AnyShopStyle.cn

“Fayre is an old English word describing a fun gathering featuring a range of locally produced goods made and sourced from, and connected to the local community.”

The Hutong’s Winter Fayre brings this concept of a traditional fayre to Beijingers next Sunday, December 11, which will also be the last Christmas Bazaar of the year ie, your last chance to stock up on Christmas gifts for friends and family!

Featuring a “warm-winter” theme, they will be serving hot cups of vin brulé (mulled wine) and have live caroling. The fayre will be selling a wide range of products from homemade jams and infused teas and cheeses to handmade handicrafts, photography to jewelry, unique cards and papers, handmade body scrubs, baked goods to chocolates to cashmere scarves.
