京A Taproom Welcomes BJ FOoDiEs with Full Menu Tasting Dinner

November 30 is the final day of Movember (your last night to proudly show off that sexy facial hair) and also marks the final day of Beijing’s “Maovember: ‘Stache for Cash” campaign. In an effort to raise as much money for this year’s chosen charity Orbis, BJ FOoDiEs will be rallying their loyal following of die-hard foodies for a final feast at 京A Taproom in 1949 The Hidden City in South Sanlitun together with George Smith, managing director of Orbis North Asia.

A concept created by Slow Boat Brewery, The Beijing Autumn Craft Beer Festival is launching for the very first time this weekend – Friday, October 10 from 5-10PM and all day this Saturday, October 11th from 12PM Noon-10PM at EAST hotel in Lido.

“In it’s inaugural year, the festival is designed to highlight world-class local beers and breweries, while giving people an excuse to celebrate the harvest season with good friends, good food, and good fun. A festival created to support the growth of the Chinese craft beer and slow food movements, there is no admission fee and parents are welcome to make use of the venue’s large outdoor playground.” – The Slow Boat Team

JingA Taproom in 1949

After wiping away any remaining traces of dust, construction is complete for Jing-A‘s Pop Up Taproom!

What was once Bar Veloce in 1949 – The Hidden City in South Sanlitun (next to Okra 1949 and Duck de Chine), this gorgeous courtyard/former factory space is a snag.

“We have 16 taps, pouring more Jing-A beer than anywhere else in town (including small batches available only at our taproom) and some exciting guest brews that we’ll be bringing to Beijing for the first time. We’ll also be offering be the first craft brewery to offer the option of nitro taps, serving beers with that creamy Guinness-like consistency. Great for trying a beer you already love in a new way.” – Alex Acker, Jing-A’s Co-founder (alongside Kristian Li)

Here are some exclusive photos of Jing-A’s taproom under construction:

CHI Restaurant: Spring Vegetable Salad with 62 degree Celsius Poached Egg

Chi Restaurant is all about local, organic and artisanal dishes.

Opened by a wonderfully creative and forward-thinking team – husband and wife duo behind Saffron Spanish restaurant Yao Yang and Li Yang and managed by Nathan Zhang, the hip and awesome founder of upcycling charity concept Brand Nu. Already among the most respected business owners of Wudaoying Hutong, these guys are classy-ing up this mega-popular strip of trendy cat cafes, hipster bars, fixie bike shops, and comfort dining joints (like Vineyard Cafe and Stuff’d just around the corner) with one of cutest, quaintest little gems of all.

Beautifully designed with Japanese accents, the space feels warm and cozy rather than squished and tight and the welcoming atmosphere is enhanced by the happy diners and smiling chefs from the open kitchen that literally bares all with not one cluttered corner abled to be hidden from plain view.

Serving breakfast, set lunches and dinners, foodies come to Chi for organic food that promotes sustainable eating by locally sourcing as many of their ingredients as possible. Catering to a loyal following of regular customers, they are also rotating their menu on a weekly basis so you can always count on something different each time you come.

JUE Market 2013

After the Unexpected Postponement, JUE Wraps Up Another Great Year with its Ever Popular JUE Market

Back in its 3rd year, JUE Market was originally scheduled to take place at the off-set of the art and music festival, but due to unexpected circumstances, they had to postpone their most popular event of the festival to coincide with their closing party.

Wrapping up all the elements of JUE, this market day features some of Beijing’s most beloved specialty vendors ranging from fantastic home-brewed craft beer by Jing A Beer and Great Leap Brewing, savory bites by Two Guys and A Pie, Yunnan by Sue Zhou’s Hani Gejiu, Andy’s Craft Sausages, and delectable desserts by both Sweet Tooth Bakery and Fat Bunny Bakery.

Food and beverages aside, JUE Market will also showcase plenty of crafty vendors selling everything from creative handi-crafts to this year’s newest fashion designs along with a variety of interactive artworks, installations, film screenings, and live musical performances throughout the day.

Pop-Up Taco Bar in Dashilar's Upcoming Boutique Hotel by The Orchid

The Coolest Event of BJ Design Week Thus Far:

The Taco Bar Pops-Up in The Orchid’s Upcoming Space in Dashilar

A pop-up that spread through Beijing’s foodie community like wildfire, news of The Taco Bar making a brief return was reason enough for me to cancel all prior engagements and head straight over knowing that they would most definitely run out of seats and, more importantly, tacos.

Located in what looks like an abandoned warehouse just off of Meishijie in Dashilar, this is what you step into:
