Fez Alfresco Rooftop Bar Re-Opens Friday, April 20

Posted: April 19th, 2012 | Author: LumDimSum | Filed under: Foodies & Dining Scene | Tags: Agua, Agua Restaurant Group, Ch'ien Men 23, David Yeo, DJ Ba'Al, DJ Moto, Fez Bar, Maison Boulud, Nali Patio, Re-Opening Weekend | No Comments »

Fez Rooftop Bar Re-Opens for Spring and Summer

One of Beijing’s finest rooftop bars, Fez Bar on the 6th floor of Nali Patio just above award-winning Spanish restaurant Agua will be reopening its al fresco lounge starting tomorrow, Friday, April 20.

A perfect place for pre- or post-dinner drinks, weekend afternoon lounging (they have a great brunch that they will plan to relaunch this year), Fez is a preferred destination to sip on quality cocktails and champagne in a stylish, upscale atmosphere.

“This exotic chill-out oasis for cool cocktails and parties adopts a Moorish andMediterranean theme, Fez Bar will be open from the end of April to the end of September, open every day of the week from 5PM to late night.”  - Fez Bar Team

Opening party will have a RMB 35 mixed drink deal, but starting April 21-April 30th, Fez’s soft opening drink deals will also include a selection of other cocktails for the same RMB 35 price.

“Cocktails mixed in a tent-style bar at the rooftop venue will include perfectly done tequila & rum based classics (Mojito, Piňa Colada, Margarita), excellent summertime wines from Spain (from mucat to verdejo or albariño grapes), as well as Champagne and fine liquors.”

Just last year Fez Bar moved to Nali Patio’s rooftop from its original location in the compounds of Ch’ien Men 23 (where fine dining French restaurant Maison Boulud still stands its ground as one of the last remaining survivors of the original Ch’ien Men establishments).  Operated by Agua Restaurant Group (Hong Kong, London, Beijing), Fez’s cutting edge design was created by Hong Kong Designer and restauranteur David Yeo.

This year, Fez aims to pump up the music with international DJ’s who will hold residency at Fez Bar this year. Thursday nights will feature DJ Ba’Al from Spain playing soothing Caribbean, Afrocuban, Latin Jazz and Brazilian beats while Irish DJ Moto will take the decks on the weekends playing a mix of House, Funk, Tech House, and Chill Out Lounge.

Aside from Fez Bar’s unbeatable views of the surrounding Sanlitun area, they are also known for their innovative (and pricey) cocktails created by European mixologists, tapas menu, charming staff, and most notably for attracting the city’s most stylish clientele.

Event Details:

  • Date: Friday, April 20, 2012

  • Time: 10PM-onwards

  • Location: Fez Bar

  • Address: 6th Floor of Nali Patio above Agua, No. 81 Sanlitun North Street in Chaoyang District

  • To Make a Reservation: 5208 6188 or email annie.fu@aqua.com.hk

Family Photo Op at theBeijinger’s 9th Annual Reader Restaurant Awards

On Monday, March 19, 2012, theBeijinger just celebrated its 9th Annual Reader Restaurant Awards Ceremony at the Hilton Beijing.

Taking place from 11:30AM-2PM, the restaurant awards got my week off to a great start with a nice break on my mid-day on Monday with more food, sweets and ice cream I could have hoped for.  I was most impressed with the chocolate covered strawberries, chewy cookies and desserts by Sweet Tooth. I’m just thankful I had the self-control to resist drinking from the free flowing beer, wines, cocktails sponsored by Grand Marnier, Chimay, Leffe and Hoegaarden.

Always a grand affair, this year seemed bigger than ever with a very large crowd of both F&B big-heads and die-hard foodies. And it makes sense considering the amount of restaurants that were nominated and the strong readership who submitted ballots (thanks to social media platforms like Weibo, theBeijinger was really successful in reaching a broader audience this year).

“During three weeks of voting, over 5,000 readers and consumers cast ballots in 50 different categories, for over 250 nominated restaurants.”

That’s right- 50 categories and 250 nominated restaurants!  I was wondering how they were planning to read through 50 different categories (would be a nightmare to list off so many winners for so many categories) so I was relieved to find that this year, they displayed 30 of the 50 categories in the winding hall into the main event space.

So right off the bat, we were given the winners for the majority of the awards. It was so unexpected to walk into these displays without expecting to see so many announced in advance. Running around to find the categories Hatsune was nominated in, I was beyond stoked to discover Hatsune won Best Japanese for the 8th year in a row and Hatsune also won Best Decor (Hatsune Sanlitun) and Outstanding for Best Business Lunch (Mosto won this one!).

Other Big Winners from the 9th Annual Awards Ceremony Include:

  • Maison Boulud – Winning 7 Awards in total –  Best French, Best Service (Non-Chinese), Best Wine List, Best for a Romantic Meal, Outstanding for Impressing Visitors, Outstanding Place for a Celebration and Outstanding for Restaurant of the Year (Non-Chinese)

  • Da Dong – Restaurant of the Year (Chinese), Best for Impressing Visitors (Chinese) , Best Beijing Duck, Outstanding for Best Service (Chinese)

  • Home Plate Bar-B-Que – Restaurant of the Year (Non-Chinese), Restaurant Personality of the Year (Seth Grossman), Best New Restaurant of the Year (Non-Chinese), Best American, Outstanding for Best Value for Money,

  • Nanjing Impressions – Best New Restaurant (Chinese)

  • Temple Restaurant Beijing (TRB) – Outstanding for Best New Restaurant (Non-Chinese), Restaurant Personality of the Year (Ignace Lecleir), Best for Impressing Visitors (Non-Chinese), Best Decor

  • Capital M – Best for Impressing Visitors (Non-Chinese), Best Outdoor Dining, Outstanding for Best Romantic Meal, Best Decor

Biggest Disappointments:

  • Annie’s gets nominated for Best Service?  Seriously people?  Have you even eaten in the restaurant or are you just getting delivery to your home?  If we’re talking about best delivery service, GungHo! pizza wins hands down

  • Tairyo Teppanyaki wins Best Place for Celebration?! I get that their “all-you-can-drink-and-eat deal” may draw you in at first, but the food is such low quality and everything tastes the same! Really surprised by this one.

  • Blue Frog for Best Burger – they hav e a great two-for-one deal on Mondays, but there is definitely better burgers in Beijing

  • Punjabi Indian Restaurant was not even in the running for the Best Indian category, people need to migrate east of Sanlitun!

  • Seems like majority of restaurants that won are all located in the Sanlitun area.  Wish some of the more hidden gems got more recognition (ie Ai Mo Town for Best Yunnan)

  • Wish Obentos got recognition in some of the categories they were nominated in! They definitely have the best salads in town in my opinion (much better than Annie’s anyway!)

Overall, it’s very exciting to see a small, little authentic American BBQ spot take over the entire awards ceremony!  Beating out big players like Maison Boulud and Hatsune (for Restaurant of the Year) and Temple Restaurant Beijing (for Best New Restaurant), this underdog came out of nowhere and really stole the show!

Congratulations to Home Plate Bar-B-Que!

You Can’t Buy Love, But You Can Buy Dinner: Beijing’s Top Romantic Valentine’s Day Dinners

Love is in the air…or so all Valentine’s Day advocates dreamily proclaim. But if you’re not a fan of all that sappy, lovey-dovey nonsense, just look forward to all the extra chocolates and treats that come along with this holiday!

This holiday gets a bad rap because of all the romantic pressure and unnecessary expectations associated with this day, but regardless of whether or not you are single, why not make the most of this day and take it for what it is. I say, think of this day as an excuse to pamper and treat yourself to a special dinner at one of Beijing’s top restaurants and milk this holiday for all its worth (you just have to bear through it once a year)!

You don’t have to be in love to love to eat good food and sweets!

Happy Valentine’s feasting to all my fellow foodies!

Chi Fan for Charity 2011: Tickets are Now on Sale!

“Good Eats. Good Times. Good Causes.”

Good food, good company and all for good causes – this really is my ideal event. As a proud member of the Chi Fan for Charity team, I am excited to be a part of such an inspiring event that involves such a strong community of individuals to come together and really make a difference with the selected charities we sponsor this year.

The concept for the charity event is simple. Restaurants donate set menus to the charity, which then charge diners for a specially-prepared meal. Each restaurant is offering at least three courses and two wine pairings for a table of 10.

Who can say no to being a part of such an all-around win-win-win situation?!  If you haven’t already booked your seat at one of the 39 fine dining establishments on board, tickets went on sale this week!

Many of the restaurants are already sold out (Agua, Bei, Barolo, Hatsune, Made in China, Mosto, Nobu, Orchid, Maison Boulud), but there are still 24 restaurants to choose from including Capital M, Susu, Sureno, ROOMbeijing, Modo, Karaiya Spice House, Punjabi, The Courtyard and the highly anticipated Temple Restaurant Beijing (TRB) by Maison Boulud’s ex-GM Ignace Lecleir.

“CFFC is happy to report that some of the Capital’s most interesting and influential people will once again host our tables. The evening will be filled with opportunities;talk economics with Forbes’ Gady Epstein, debate which restaurant has the best Kao Ya with restaurateur Alan Wong, gossip about philanthropy with Red Cross’ Ramsey Rayyis or discuss this season’s best reads with Penguin’s Managing director Jo Lusby. 2011′s table hosts are shaping up to be even more intriguing than last year’s stellar group.” – CFFC Newsletter

A dining event that’s won Culinary Event of the Year in Beijing in 2010, Chi Fan for Charity has expanded to Shanghai this year (with the help of organizing sponsor Austen Morris) and has set an ambitious goal to raise RMB 300,000 in this one night to be donated entirely to both the Bethel Foundation and New Hope Foundation and is now bringing its theme to Shanghai.

Visit http://www.chifanforcharity.org/bookings/restaurants/category/beijing-restaurants/ to book your spot at one of Beijing’s top 39 restaurants on November 5 at 7:30 pm.  Just select the restaurant of your choice and then follow instructions to purchase your tickets.  Remember: 100% of proceeds will go to Bethel Foundation and New Hope Foundation.

And if that wasn’t good enough, the legendary after-party at Hatsune Sanlitun Branch will be where all diners unite together for boozin and schmoozin with old skool dance tracks by DJ Patrick Yu and drinks will be flowing courtesy of The Wine Republic, Kis Natural Vodka, El Charro Tequila, Tiger Beer and Hatsune.

In addition to great drinks and company, CFFC will feature some amazing silent auction packages. Although we can’t divulge what we have secured, we can guarantee that one lucky donor will be taken away on a once in a lifetime vacation.

“Buying your first artwork is a bit like a first tattoo or first hit of smack.”

- Tom Pattinson, AAB Founder & Director

Affordable Art Beijing 2011 is upon us with doors opening this weekend for 2 FULL days of non-stop art mania.

From 10AM on May 14 until 6PM on May 15, there will be around 900 works of original Chinese contemporary art for sale.  From small prints to large oil paintings, hand-painted sculptures and photography, each piece of art has been hand-picked from the 12,000 works that were originally submitted.

With a wide range of emerging Chinese artists, styles and price (from as little as RMB 200 to a maximum cap of RMB 20,000), there is something for everyone.

“I personally am very excited this year as the quality of work is truly exceptional and I’m going to be very jealous of many people who snap up some beautiful works.”

Whether you are an avid art collector, someone curious in the development of emerging Chinese artists or just out for a fun day of “window shopping” for art, stop by AAB this weekend and who knows, maybe something will catch your eye and you may even catch the art-bug!

Six years strong, AAB Founder and Director Tom Pattinson gives LumDimSum the inside scoop to how AAB first came about, how it’s influenced China’s art world and why he’d rather spend money on buying a piece of art over going on a holiday trip!

LumDimSum Goes 1-on-1 with Mr. AAB, Tom Pattinson

LDS: As the founder of AAB, what inspired you to start your own art fair in Beijing? How did AAB first come about?

I’ve always had a passion for art and when I moved back to Beijing in 2005 found myself getting very much into the contemporary Chinese art scene. At the time my office was in 798 and we’d see some incredible art on a daily basis but it was mostly out of my price range at the time. For Valentines Day in 2006, I bought my girlfriend a painting from a friend who had a gallery specializing in emerging artists and it went from there. I realised that there were affordable artists out there and there were obviously more people like me who were keen on starting a collection but with a limited budget. Two months after Valentines Day we held the first AAB in 798.

LDS: Since it’s beginnings to today, how do you think AAB has impacted the art industry/culture in China?

Before AAB there was very little in the way of an emerging art market in China. Galleries and events very much focused on the more established artists. However, I think AAB has really helped create a new market for emerging and mid-level artists and have proved that this can be done. There are many galleries and also the major art fairs also have introduced more affordable sections which benefits not just those artists but helps deepen the art market in China as a whole. We now really have a bottom-up art market in China rather than just a top down market.

LDS: As with the start of any new venture, I’m sure there have been many obstacles and unforeseen nuances along with unexpected rewards. What have been the most absurd challenges and what has been the most rewarding aspect of AAB?

There was a time where people thought selling affordable art was a stupid idea, a lot of galleries and art experts were not that sold on the idea and even artists weren’t too sure but after the success of the first few years a lot of people wanted to be involved.

The main challenges are generally those with putting on a major event in China – agreements, partners, prices – all can suddenly change for no reason and costs can spiral out of control.  We’ve also had a lot of people, companies and organizations from across China pretending to be us. I’m pleased that now after 6 years there are many galleries and events that focus on emerging artists and affordable art because this benefits everyone – both the buyers and the artists – but we’ve had people pretending they are us and selling low quality work at high prices which obviously could affect our reputation.

For me, the most rewarding aspects are getting to know some incredibly talented artists and seeing their careers progress. Of course good artists will always do well but I like to think that AAB gives them a step up on to that ladder of career artists.

LDS: When did you first develop an interest for art?

My mother has always been artistic and taught art – she still paints and teaches art today – and we used to go painting together from a very young age. I did art at GCSE and A-Level at school and was considering studying fine art at art school – but ultimately I’m not talented enough to be an artist. But art has always been a part of my life, if not as an artist then as an art lover at least.

LDS: Would you consider yourself an avid art collector?

Buying your first artwork is a bit like a first tattoo or first hit of smack. It does become addictive and you realise how you spend money changes. If it’s a choice between an art work and a holiday then the holiday might be put on hold for a while. I buy works because I like the look of them or they make me laugh or because I like the artist or because they’ll fit in the right corner of my house but not really because I think they’re going to be valuable. I now try to have an annual art budget, which I will spend on art but no more otherwise it can get a bit silly.

LDS: What are three attributes of a great artist?

An original style, an idea that is relevant and new technique/skill.

LDS: In your expert opinion, what does it mean to be an artist?

I’d firstly certainly not call myself an expert there are a great many experts in this city of which I would not class myself as one. But I think anyone can be an artist. An artist is someone who expresses themselves, their thoughts, their views on society or their own lives. This can be through music, writing, art or any other number of mediums. An artist should be able to express a point, make a statement or capture a moment – a feeling – and translate it to appeal to a wider audience.

LDS: Who is currently your favorite artist of all time and why?

My favourite artist is normally the artist whose work I have just bought or a great show I’ve just seen so it could be any number of artists. I’ve got a big thing for Kong Lingnan right now. I did a show with her before Christmas last year and she’s showing at the UCCA at the moment. She’s also a lovely person as well as a great artist!

LDS: What kind of art do you proudly display on the walls of your home?

I’ve got a weird mix of things I’ve picked up over the last five or six years. I have a Shengqi painting, a LED work from Island 6 and an excellent collage from Gongka all in our living room, but pride of place in our house is a work we’ve dubbed “the Big Baby”, by a young artists called Guo Hongjie.

LDS: Is there any kind of art you shamefully admit to have a weakness for?

I’m currently into dark humour works. Things that are a bit cheeky, a bit dark and a bit evil. Not sure if that says something about my current stage of mind but I think I like the fact that some of these young artists are producing light-hearted works that have a bit of an edge to them rather than a lot of sappy nonsense we’re often forced to suffer.

LDS: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and particularly with Chinese contemporary art, how do you gauge what pieces are worthy of making it as a participating piece in AAB?

Good question. It’s partly experience of knowing what is popular and what will sell to our audience, it’s partly what I personally like and it’s also a bit of luck. We had around 1,000 artists apply to take part this year, which made it much harder to pick out the best artists. There are three or four in our team and we all look through them together. There are at least three rounds of checking before we make a final decision. Some artists are easy to pick, some are also easy to reject but there are many who are stuck in the middle and it’s difficult to decide whether it is excellent or just very average.

Over 2 months, nearly 15,000 art works, three or four rounds of selection we finally manage to pick out our favourite 1,000 art works.

LDS: How will this year be different from past AAB fairs?

We’ve increased the maximum price from 10,000 RMB to 20,000 RMB – this is mainly to ensure we can retain some of the best quality art work in the emerging art market. 10,000 RMB six years ago used to go a lot further than it does today.

LDS: Which artists are you most excited about this year?

There are dozens of them that I have my eye on but we have picked Yang Rui as our poster girl this year – I’m a big fan.

LDS: Have there been one or two artists who have consistently sold the most pieces?

Chen Yu’s laquered flowers are always very popular and so is Ma Weihong’s Cultural Revolution inspired works are too. Both sell very well and prices are still reasonable, although creeping up year on year.

LDS: What is the most unexpected/ridiculous art purchase you have witnessed at one of AAB’s art fairs?

A couple of years ago we had a huge sculpture work made up of six human-sized feline-faced sculptures. They were pretty scary and not something I’d have in the corner of my house. These huge monsters stood in the corner of the venue for the weekend glaring out and I thought that no one would be interested in them. But then someone bought the whole lot and shipped them off to a restaurant in Germany. It’s then you realise that actually there really is something for everyone at AAB.

LDS: What is the ratio of newbie artists vs. AAB artist veterans?

75% new I would estimate. Many of our artists grow beyond us, which is great, so we always have to find new talent.

LDS: What is the ratio of art pieces you genuinely like vs. pieces you select for the general public?

The vast majority I actually like. There are a small fraction that aren’t as suitable to my tastes but this is because my tastes are permanently changing and evolving. But I want to make sure that there is something not just for everyone’s budget but also for everyone’s taste too.

LDS: About how many people do you expect to rush through this 2 day fair?  And what percentage of these people will actually purchase an art piece?

I hope to see up to about 8,000 people come through over the 2 days. I would expect about 4oo people to buy works so that’s only a small percentage. But it’s not just about the sales. It’s great for visitors to see that art doesn’t have to be expensive or exclusive but something they might be able to afford. It’s also great for the public to interact with the artists who are often present and just have a fun day out.

Visitors Queuing to attendThousands turned up last year with a massive line outside, selling an average of 2 pieces per minute in the first few hours of the fair. This year, be smart, get there before the crowds and do your research ahead of time!

LDS: You like to cook, if AAB was a dish, what would it be?

A nice, fresh bouillabaisse – nice and exotic with fresh and high quality ingredients, but can never really be made the same way twice.

LDS: Of all the places in the world, why have you chosen Beijing as your home?

It’s about as different as you can get from suburban UK and there is so much to do here.

Every day I think of a new idea, a new thing I’d like to do and to be involved in the creative industries and art world is wonderful. We really are in a place and time that we’ll be able to look back on in years to come and say  “I was a part of that”.

LDS: Top 3 Dining Destinations in Beijing?

  • Dali Courtyard – a great, affordable and easy option for impressing out-of-town visitors
  • Chuan’r man on Babaokeng hutong – best chuan’r, still 1 RMB a stick and he’s right outside our office!
  • Agua – for good lunch with a nice bottle of wine.
  • LDS: Top 3 Drinking Destinations in Beijing?

  • Salud – for late night drinking – never remember leaving that place
  • Mesh – for after work meetings and great cocktails
  • Migas Rooftop – for the summer at least (D-lounge for the winter)

While many of this year’s winners are very deserving of their awards, I was disappointed to see a few of my favorite restaurants without any recognition – Bei (in the Opposite House), Black Sesame Kitchen, Karaiya Spice House, and Madame Zhu’s Kitchen to name a few.  And I am really fed up with repeat winners  - Annie’s winning Best Italian (come on people, it’s not best delivery service), Ganges for Best Indian (really not that great), and Element Fresh for Best American, Best Sandwiches, and Best Affordable Brunch? I only approve of their smoothies and salads and boycott the rest.

Wine & Cheese Fondue: Enoterra’s Winter Remedy

Posted: January 21st, 2011 | Author: LumDimSum | Filed under: Foodies & Dining Scene, Hot Tips | Tags: Agua, Enoterra, Nali Patio, Wine & Cheese | No Comments »

For all you wine & cheese lovers out there, Enoterra’s got you covered this winter.  Warm up over bottles of wine and hot, steaming pots of cheese fondue, a brilliant remedy to the freezing cold weather.

Every day from 4PM onwards, you can share pots of cheese fondue for RMB 180 (2 people) or RMB 320 (4 people). And as always, Enoterra is one of Beijing’s best wine bars in terms of both selection and price.

    Bon Appétit!

Agua Makes a Big Comeback in Nali

Posted: November 2nd, 2010 | Author: LumDimSum | Filed under: A Day In My Life | Tags: Agua, Apothecary, Carmen, Ch'ien Men 23, Chef Jordi, Enoterra, Let's Burger, Migas, Mosto, Mughal's, Nali Patio, Niajo, Spanish food | 9 Comments »

With the opening of a fine dining establishment such as Agua, I think the entire reputation of Nali Patio just stepped up a notch.

The original home of Let’s Burger, Mosto, Niajo and Mughal’s, Nali Patio has improved ten-fold with new happening spaces such as Apothecary, Migas, Enoterra and now the high-end Spanish restaurant Agua with Chef Jordi and his highly sought-after suckling pig.

Having just recently opened its doors for the first time since its move from Ch’ien Men 23 aka Legation Quarter, Agua re-opens with a Private Kitchen Menu by Chef Jordi inclusive of a sampling of 3 delicious Tapitas followed by a four-course meal for only RMB 308 per person.

    IMG_1569

Having dined several times at its original location in Ch’ien Men, I was surprised to see how much the decor and style of the venue has changed.  From it’s bright red walls and grandeur columns all around, Agua now features a high ceiling and a big, open space surrounded by all-white brick walls and minimalistic decor.  There is a bar at the entrance, two beautiful private dining rooms and Agua will open a rooftop terrace during the warmer summer months.

    LumDimSum Snapshots of Agua’s Interior:

As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by the restaurant manager Richard Pirsch, who led us to our table and then Chef Jordi also came over to introduce the menu while Richard recommended some nice wines to pair with our meal.

    IMG_1553

Our meal began with the best tasting ham and mushroom croquette I have seriously ever tasted together with 3 Tapitas: Homemade Chorizo, Shrimps with garlic and herbs and Picadillo (marinated pork chunks in Spanish paprika). While I was a big fan of the shrimp, my fellow foodie favored the chorizo.

    IMG_1554IMG_1556IMG_1558IMG_1555

We were then served a Smoked Japanese mackerel with herbs  salad and diced tomato.  I thought the mackerel was an interesting choice for Agua to serve, but the fishy flavor was not as pungent or as tough as I had expected and it paired well with the tomatoes and herbs salad.

    IMG_1560

The pumpkin soup was probably the highlight of my meal. Never have I seen pumpkin soup served with a poached egg and I must say, it worked beautifully.  And it was a nice touch to have the waitstaff pour the pumpkin soup over the dish in front of you.

    IMG_1563IMG_1564

The main dish was a slow-cooked Wagyu veal cheek with marinated plums and beets.  Once again, the waitress came around and poured gravy over the meat, and as I sliced into the veal, the meat just fell apart. It was perfectly cooked and the flavors were a perfect balance of sweet (marinated plums) and savory (gravy and veal cheek).

    IMG_1567

To top it all off, we had Galician-style crepes with lemon custard, Greek yogurt and “Moscatel Oro” ice cream. I’m glad the portion was small because by this point, I was already a stuffed Humpty Dumpty and to be perfectly honest, this was the low-point of the meal.  I normally love natural Greek yogurt but the sour flavor was a bit overwhelming in this dessert and with a sweet tooth like mine, I guess I prefer rich chocolate or something sweeter rather than sour at the end of a big meal.

    IMG_1568

Overall, it was a wonderful meal and a very satisfying experience (round of applause for Chef Jordi, Richard and their team) and it should be noted that this meal is great value for only RMB 308 per person.  I will definitely be back to check out the entire menu and in their future tasting menu, they promise to feature their famous suckling pig as the main entree, served table-side!

A few other things to look forward to – Next week, Agua begins serving its full a la carte menu with a new tasting menu and in two weeks, Agua will launch its lunch menu – 2 courses for RMB 88 and 3 courses for RMB 98.

Review of Agua: Above Apothecary, next to Enoterra, 4th Floor of Nali Patio, 81 Sanlitun Beilu, 三里屯北路81号那里花园3层, Tel: 6559-6266

    Best Part:IMG_1573

    • Best suckling pig in town
    • Chef Jordi is one of the most talented chefs in Beijing
    • Expect very professional service and special treatment from both the restaurant manager and Chef Jordi himself
    • A very high-end New York restaurant decor with white brick walls, low lighting and minimalistic decor
    • Cozy ambiance with nice booth or table seating to choose from.
    • Beautiful VIP rooms in the back surrounded in glass.
    • Will launch a set lunch menu: RMB 68 for 2-courses or RMB 98 for 3-courses.

    Comments:

    • Considering they’ve just opened, the standard of service was very impressive and every step of the meal was transitioned and executed smoothly and professionally.
    • While each dish of Jordi’s Private Kitchen Tasting Menu was all very good, little croquette aside, there was not really one course that made my jaw drop…and perhaps that’s because Jordi’s suckling pig was not one of the dishes served tonight.
    • It’s wonderful to see Nali develop over the past few years and I am certain that Agua alone will raise the reputation of Nali Patio as one of Beijing’s top dining destinations.
    • Nali Patio is now Spanish Restaurant Central: Carmen, Migas, Niajo and now Agua!

Rating: (on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being best)

    • Food: 7
    • Atmosphere: 7
    • Service: 8
    • Overall Experience: 8
