Join Bespoke’s Wild Wall Weekend with William Lindesay (OBE)
One of the most majestic and mind-blowingly awesome sights in China is hands-down the Great Wall. It’s amazing how often people ask me if I get tired of going to the Great Wall and my answer is never.
It may be a little bit (or a lot) of effort to get to, sometimes you have to hike through some pretty rugged terrain to reach the Wall, but once I’m on it, I never regret it and have gained more appreciation and admiration for The Great Wall the more I visit and the more I learn about it.
So when I heard that Bespoke Travel Company is organizing a Wild Wall Weekend with William Lindesay, known as the world’s leading Great Wall historian, I couldn’t help but jump with joy.

Enjoy the Great Outdoors with The Hutong’s Harvest Festival with Great Leap
This Saturday, October 24th, The Hutong is teaming up with Great Leap Brewing to host Beijing’s Harvest Festival.
In a charming little village called Tianxianyu located just below the Mutianyu and Jiankou section of the Great Wall, The Hutong and Great Leap gang will be sharing one of their favorite escapes just outside Beijing for a full day of BBQ, craft beer and games.
“To celebrate a bountiful harvest, we will be barbecuing pigs and fish, pouring Great Leap harvest-themed beers, competing in old-school field day games, and cap it off with campfire stories around a bonfire. No matter how you spend the day, it’s a great way to enjoy a day with family and friends.” – The Hutong

Hani Gejiu Hosts Long Table Festival at Ditan Park
As much as we love Hani Gejiu‘s cozy little Yunnan restaurant nestled next to Beijing’s famed Bell Tower, their annual Long Table Festival in Ditan Park is an incredible rendition of the traditional festival in the Hani communities in villages around Hong He Zhou.
Truly a sight to be seen (see photo below), people of the Hani minority host the longest street banquet in the world. Lining up more than 3,000 tables laid out in one long stretch without a gap in between, this super long row of tables on the street is made to emulate the shape of a long, snaking dragon. Everyone dresses in their holiday best and celebrates their most popular national delicacies together over this jovial time-honored culinary tradition.
With the Hani minority famed for being natural born singers, the event calls for a whole lot of singing and dancing mixed in with the day-long event of eating and drinking.

BJ FOoDiEs Takes Over TRB Bites for their October Charity Dinner
After LDS broke the shocking news this summer that Ignace Lecleir’s famed Temple Restaurant Beijing (TRB) team was taking over Brian McKenna’s suddenly closed Courtyard restaurant location on the east gate of the Forbidden City, the entire foodie community was rejoicing by the happy ending for this foodie story.
“Reinventing a venue that has played home to many legendary dining institutions, TRB Bites is a convivial refuge that we refer to as “A Casual and Modern Eatery”: where we envision our guests enjoying themselves in a relaxed and chic setting while we serve up tasty treats that are prepared with passion.” – TRB Bites@The Courtyard
In soft opening period since early September, TRB Bites@The Courtyard is quickly making a name for itself as Beijing’s best value fine dining restaurant in the capital. After a full-on feast tasting almost ever dish listed on their menu (read all about it here), we couldn’t believe we were eating Temple quality dishes at only RMB 188/248/288 for any 3/4/5 courses (of course we went for the 5 course option).

Though D.C. Benny’s Comedy Central gig was one of the highest rated of all time along with being the top 8 comedians in Last Comic Standing, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen him in one of his many appearances on NBC’s Law and Order (I’m pretty sure I’ve seen every episode twice).
And if you’re from the U.S. of A., chances are that you recognize D.C. Benny too.
Not only is this guy the face of national commercials for Verizon, Dell, Volkswagen, and Wendy’s, he was the main character in Budweiser’s “How You Doin’?” Superbowl ad campaign. And though I’m not sure you’ll admit to watching this show, he’s also had a long run on the never-ending soap series As The World Turns.
