Get Ready to Pig Out at Home Plate’s Smoke Out Celebration!
Just announced, this is not one you’re going to want to miss!
After Home Plate BBQ closed its doors last week after it got a little too smoky in its smoker, they’re re-opening their doors this Saturday, March 12th with “The Great Smokeout”.
“Last week we learned that laying two hogs side by side our smoker gets the meat love a little bit too hot, and 119 was called. Bad news for us, good news for you!” - Home Plate BBQ

Cacha Cacha’s Authentic Northern Thai is Giving North Sanlitun an Extra Dose of Spice!
Taikoo Li North has started to see a revival in the past 6 months. I can remember the days when Beijingers would flock to the North end of the village and were obsessed with the Colibri cupcakes. In the intervening 5 years alas, I haven’t ventured up there much. With the revitalisation of Colibri and the introduction of Cacha Cacha, alongside the long-term solid performer Transit, things are looking up.
Cacha Cacha is a Northern Thai restaurant (think Chiang Mai) and the food is by a very talented chef Tom Samranjit who boasts both an impressive and extensive culinary track record, mostly working with big name hotels in Hong Kong. Breaking free to do what he knows best, Cacha Cacha’s menu is distinctively different from other Thai restaurants in Beijing using treasured family recipes.
“We specialize in authentic Lanna (Northern Thai) cuisine by our proprietor chef Tom Samranjit. As a second generation Thai chef, Tom brings his exotic recipes inherited from his family legacy of more than 50 years.” - Leo Wu, Partner of Cacha Cacha

It’s shocking to realize that March is already upon us when it feels like it was just Christmas yesterday but I guess that’s the norm when we spend most of Beijing’s cold winter months bundled up indoors. But this March isn’t just the start of warmer weather, it’s the return of the Beijing I’ve grown to adore, a dynamic city full of non-stop events that keeps us on our toes and wanting more.
This year not only marks my 10 year Chinaversary but it will also be the 10th year celebration of The Bookworm’s Annual Literary Festival (BLF), which continues to stand strong as one of the most anticipated events of the year. Organized by one of Beijing’s most beloved community centers, The Bookworm not only serves as a bookshop but a reliable resource and platform for sharing ideas, open discussions and debates for the international community. Recently named one of “The Best Bookshops in the World” by Lonely Planet, The Bookworm fosters a welcoming and creative space and their annual literary festival is a perfect example to showcase what The Bookworm is all about.
“We believe in the power of literature, which challenges us to understand the world outside of ourselves. It introduces new perspectives and shifts paradigms. We’ve created BLF to be a forum for thought and dialogue – fundamentals of a progressive society. Literature is an ongoing, live, global discussion, and BLF is proud to be part of it.” – The Bookworm

Sign Up for Hatsune’s Sake Sensei Dinner Party
Sake can be intimidating. A drink most people would happily cheers to (sake bomb anyone?), but would you know how to order it? Do you more often drink hot or cold sake and do you know the difference other than the temperature?
Hatsune takes as much pride in its sake list as they do with the creative California-style sushi rolls that they’re so widely known for. Offering different varieties of sake ranging in price and taste, they try to make sake as accessible as possible to their sushi-crazed fans.
On a mission to share their love and appreciation for sake, Hatsune’s owner Alan Wong is taking charge by hosting a dinner party focused entirely on sake (supplemented by full dinner menu of course).

Be Among the First to Test Taste The Orchid’s New Dinner Menu!
Every time I go to The Orchid, I leave wishing I spent more time there. Sadly, it seems everyone else feels the same way as the place is almost always booked solid. The good news is that even if you can’t get a reservation to stay, they have made some new renovations and are opening a full kitchen. The Orchid’s Toast Restaurant’s weekend brunch is already drawing in crowds beyond their hotel guests, but this dinner concept featuring bold Middle Eastern flavours is looking like it will turn out to be a killer addition.
Still Finishing Final Touches, The Orchid’s Expanded Dining Area
