AWA Salt & Float Therapy: Float Therapy

Combat Beijing Pollution with Salt Therapy & Experience Sensory Deprivation with Float Therapy

I first tried floating about 3 years ago in a dingy basement in San Francisco at the insistence of a friend who swore by it. First impressions were not promising as the place we went to was not exactly where you want to be put into a tank and left in the dark. But the owner seemed to be nice enough and there was a friendly dog there, which is a good sign. #animalssenseevil  The owner was well-versed in all the benefits of sensory deprivation and was patient in walking us through the steps and process as it was my first time.

The sensation is amazing. For the first few minutes, your brain will bounce around thinking about a million different things, but eventually, you simply lose track of your body and with conscious effort, you can quiet your mind leaving you in a state of unparalleled relaxation.

The water is set to the same temperature as the average human body so you don’t need to worry about getting cold or being too warm. Done right, the goal is for you to be completely content and forget your body exists. Because you float with all the salt water in the tank, unlike lying in bed, you won’t get a dead arm/shoulder/neck cramp. There is no pressure anywhere on your body, there is no need to fidget or adjust any position in your body.

New! Hummingbird Spa in Park Avenue Apartments: Massage Bed

Hummingbird Spa’s Newest Branch in Park Avenue Apartments

For the past three years, Hummingbird Spa has dominated Central Park with two outlets in the same complex – the Wellness Spa and also a Hair & Beauty Salon starring celebrity stylist Tom Yuen aka “The Scissorhands of Beijing”.

But since they opened their first outlet in Central Park back in 2011, they are now ready to spread their wings beyond the comfort of Beijing’s CBD and into the high-end apartment complex Park Avenue, just between the 4th ring road and Chaoyang Park South Gate.

Having only opened for about one month, the new space is already booking up and news of Beijing’s sweetheart Hummingbird spa’s newest branch is quickly spreading throughout East Beijing. Located just next to Jamaica Blue and April Gourmet, the new outlet is smaller than its Wellness Spa in Central Park but still has plenty of rooms and offers the same quality massage, facial and mani/pedi services that have made Hummingbird such a trusted and popular spa in Beijing.

Avec L’Inde: Introducing a Precious Indian Jewelry Line

Introducing Avec L’Inde Indian Jewelry Line

One of my favorite things about Beijing is that this city is filled with creative, passionate and unique individuals with a plethora of ideas, talents and drive that make for successful entrepreneurs.  It’s never a dull day in this city and I am continuously impressed by the quality of people who also call this city their home.

Just this past weekend I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Jahanavi Bhaskar, who spends her time bouncing back and forth between India and China, each time growing her stunning collection of uniquely hand-crafted pieces from India.  Since she was a young girl, she’s been accustomed to wearing big, beautiful uncut precious stones and gems and after realizing how expensive all the jewelry stores are in Beijing, she saw a need to supply this city with original, exotic pieces at affordable prices.

After admiring each of her pieces (i.e. trying everything on at least once), I was excited to learn that the general price range for her jewelry runs mostly in the realm of USD$50-200!

LumDimSum Turns 3 with Hummingbird Hook-Ups

TURNS

After over 1,000 posts and approaching LumDimSum‘s third year mark, it’s time to get a little sentimental.

This little blog of mine originally started out of curiosity with zero ambition and thanks to a few words of encouragement and a touch of OCD, it’s blossomed into a full-fledged project of mine that I hardly go a day without working on. Like the mother of a child, LumDimSum is something I think about 24/7. Whether I’m stumbling across a newly opened store, testing out a new restaurant or scouring the internet for interesting material and worthy upcoming events, I have LumDimSum at heart and always on the front of my mind.

New Salon Opening: Hair & Beauty by Hummingbird

Through the Looking Glass: Hair & Beauty by Hummingbird

Within two weeks or some crazy short amount of time, Hummingbird reinvented their original spa retreat in Tower 3 of Central Park into a new Hair & Beauty Salon with the blink of an eye.

Since the new Wellness Spa by Hummingbird opened in tower 26 of Central Park, I haven’t been back to the original spa retreat in months. And what was even stranger was returning to a place that was so familiar and comforting to me and feel like I was walking in to an entirely new space.  Hummingbird quickly and effectively transformed this space for a completely brand new vibe almost instantaneously.

And strategically, this is a smart move for Hummingbird to change this space into a space that can compliment their existing spa services rather than have two neighboring spaces that repeat the exact same services.
