Time to Bring on some “Razzle Dazzle” Burgers for BJ FOoDiEs
For the very discerning palates of this cult-following, food-loving, big-hearted charity-giving group called BJ FOoDiEs, we wouldn’t bring them to have just any plain-jane burger. No siree! Not any burger will do when it comes to this bunch.
So when LumDimSum put Burger Bar on the BJ FOoDiEs radar, they were delighted to give their group any excuse to explore the fancy-pantsy new Parkview Green mall across from The Place and head down to Hubert Keller’s first ever Burger Bar Branch in Beijing. With branches in San Fran, Las Vegas and St. Louis in the US, a few branches in Asia (Philippines and Japan), its newest Beijing branch just opened June 2013 with the help of their consulting chef Brandon Trowbridge (of Nola, Hutong Pizza, Cookie’s Cookies and Great Wall Granola). Check out my LDS 1-on-1 with Brandon here.
After skipping a charity dinner last month, BJ FOoDiEs is bringing it back strong with Burger Bar this July, which will lead nicely into their “SUPERAWESOMEGINORMOUSLYBIG” anniversary celebration dinner in August.

ICEF Rugby from LA (USA) Takes on New Zealand in an Award-Winning Documentary
The best moments in life are often the most unexpected. That’s how I feel about the kids I met who play for ICEF Rugby.
As a member of The Hutong’s Education Team, I had the delight and privilege to spend quality time with these kids when they came to visit Beijing for the first time in March 2013.
When The Hutong Education first heard from Stuart Krohn, the rugby coach of an inner city foundation in Los Angeles, California called ICEF, we had no idea what was coming our way. The Hutong’s Education Program is more accustomed to working with international schools around Asia so this was definitely not our typical inquiry and the fact that it all seemed so out-of-the-blue, sparked our interest from the start. All we knew was that they’d be making a quick 2 1/2 day trip to Beijing as a part of a two-week China Program (Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong) for their rugby program.

Beijing’s beloved charity and dining event, Chi Fan for Charity (CFFC) is normally held annually in November, but this time, they’re back for a mid-year premiere event, bringing Napa Valley Vintners in town to host a very special dining event on Friday, April 19th.
Originally founded by Michael Crain, CFFC has been running 4 years strong (most recently, CFFC 2012 raised over RMB 400,000 to support Little Flower Projects and The Starfish Project), this is the second year they are hosting a collaboration between CFFC and Napa Valley Vintners for a spectacular dining experience for a worthy cause, but this time with a twist.
Instead of 40 separate restaurants each sponsoring a table of ten seats with all proceeds going to charity, Temple Restaurant Beijing (TRB) has generously offered up their entire restaurant (a grand total of 120 seats), meaning that they will close their doors to the public (on a Friday night!) and dedicate their entire venue and restaurant team to serve the charitable foodies of CFFC.
