While often used as the guinea pigs during the soft opening of new restaurants, the BJ FOoDiEs group is very much in the loop when it comes to new restaurant openings and all too familiar with the pros and cons of hitting up these new restaurants in big numbers. While they tend to have forgiving expectations when it comes to service speed and efficiency, they still expect to be fed well and leaving every event feeling like they got a great meal in taste, portions and value. It is a charity event after all!
Well, this month the BJ FOoDiEs team is giving their entourage an invite to a meal at a restaurant that’s been around for over 10 years and part of a very well-known restaurant group – the playful and popular Californian-Japanese Hatsune brand that was the first to make creative, non-traditional sushi rolls in China. While many foodies may frequent Hatsune, they may never have been to Haiku before.
With a handful of branches in Shanghai and a couple in Beijing, the Haiku brand was previously a sister restaurant of the original Hatsune group. But after a few facelifts and a change in the management team, Haiku is back under the Hatsune umbrella and has combined two wonderful worlds of sushi and teppanyaki under one glorious roof.
Knowing Hatsune CEO & Founder Alan Wong, he’s put together a phenomenal menu featuring 9 different dishes ranging from appetizers, 3 different sushi rolls, their signature steak teppanyaki and Firecracker Chicken, which was a limited specialty dish that they’re bringing back just for FOoDiEs!

If you’re a fellow foodie and keen to come and spend your Sunday with others who are equally excited about the kick-ass 9-dish menu you see above, then you can sign up for the upcoming BJ FOoDiEs charity dinner event this coming Sunday, April 23rd.
Note that the above 9 dishes will be shared between four foodies, so unless you don’t mind sharing with fellow foodies, you can rally group a eating team of four! Early foodies get the best seats so if you want to bring your own entourage of foodies, then we recommend that you come on time at 19:30. Come join this entourage of die-hard foodies who are always up for new dining adventures and keen to support community events around town.
With limited seating, I’d recommend booking your seats ASAP as we expect to sell out. All you need to do is transfer of RMB 150 to WeChat ID: LumDimSum. Easy peasy lemon squeezey.

Selected Event Charity: Education In Sight
Since 2012, Education In Sight Has Screened Over 76,000 Students And Delivered 11,239 Pairs Of Free Eyeglasses. Help Us Bring This Solution To Every Student Across The World.
Uncorrected poor vision among students is the most overlooked problem in the field of education. Giving free glasses is one of the most powerful tools we have for combating educational inequality around the world. Vision correction has demonstrated a higher impact on academic achievement than either family income or parental education level.
At Education In Sight, we connect resources directly inside schools to deliver the exams, eyeglasses, and engagement students need to see clearly and succeed.

CEO and Co-Founder Andrew Shirman will also be bringing a few models of their Mantra Sunglasses with a generous “Buy One, Give One” concept: for every pair of sunglasses they sell, they donate a pair of prescription glasses to a student in need in rural Yunnan.
As the Weather Warms Up, these Sunglasses are Going to Be Your Favorite Accessory and Necessity!
For those who are not familiar with the FOoDiEs concept, they organize monthly charity dinners at different restaurants each month at an amazing price between RMB 100-150 per person (for a meal worth much more its value) so that guests will feel extra generous to the sponsored organization that month.
The RMB 150 for this month’s dinner will be paid directly to the hosting restaurant and guests will be introduced to a representative of the sponsored organization and envelopes will be passed out during the main course so that after the organization representative has introduced their cause, guests can anonymously donate as they wish! Our hope is that the more satisfied with the generous meal, the more generous you’ll be with your wallet!
Donations are accepted in both cash form and WeChat transfers (I always bring extra cash for your transfer donations).
