LumDimSum & The Hutong Host their 2nd Annual Cookie Monster Bake-Off!
Cookie Monster’s DREAM-COME-TRUE, the 2nd annual Cookie Monster bake-off’s display of drool-inducing cookies was unparalleled in both talent and creativity.
Having taken place this past Saturday, March 14, the event was co-hosted by LDS (yours truly)+ The Hutong featuring 19 different baking contestants (18 of which were brand new to sign up!). These were the baking finalists who made it through a tough screening process in order for us to present the best of the best cookies we could find.
The Hutong’s Ben Kalman + LDS greet Cookie Monsters upon arrival
After last year’s event helped to jump-start the launch of Beijing’s beloved cookie distributor Big Bear Baked Goods (by our winning baker Jon Ellis who won both the People’s Choice Awards and Judge’s Choice Awards), we were excited to invite him back to showcase his winning cookies as a bonus! With Jon Ellis back this year as an honored guest (he’s the most famous cookie celebrity in Beijing!), he also took on the pressured role of being one of our 3 Cookie-phile judges to determine who would be this year’s winning Cookie Baker.
Now that’s a Winning Cookie (Big Bear Baked Goods!)
With a grand total of 19 superb baking contestants standing tall and proud by their very best Cookie-Monster-worthy recipes, The Hutong saw over 90 cookie-munching sweet tooths come through their doors.
A special treat for all, each participant received a sampling card upon arrival which entitled them to taste sample their way through 20 different cookie varieties (the 20th was Jon Ellis’). In the end, each person was given 3 votes to distribute between the 19 contestants to determine which cookie would make Cookie Monster himself most excited and win the People’s Choice Award!
While showcasing many of Beijing’s Best Bakers (both professional and up-and-coming) to indulge the city’s most avid cookie monsters, we also took this golden opportunity to support a wonderful non-profit organization Bethel China, a pioneer and leader in the field of early intervention for blind children in China. Through the event’s raffle ticket sales, a portion of the total bake sales throughout the day and entrance tickets, we raised RMB 6,120 for Bethel!
