After another fantastic pho lunch at neighboring Pho Laboratory, we saw something out of the corner of our eye on our way back to the office. That shiny glimmer that caught our eye was the brand-new bar specializing in premium spirits and homemade bitters.
A little too early in the day to get our drink on, we just stopped in for a quick look and chat with “boulevardier” (his name card title) Douglas Williams of Bareknuckle Boxing Club Bar & Restaurant Consulting, who previously consulted for Apothecary, Peekaboo and Parlor bars.
Chatting Up BBC’s founder Douglas Williams
Admiring the rows of bitters on display and listening in awe to Doug describe their soft-opening party over the weekend where they hosted over 40 to specialty cocktails and bourbons, it’s not hard to imagine that this place would be very popular from the very start but how they managed to squeeze that many into the teeny tiny space is baffling.
And according to theBeijinger, “local legend Stephanie Rocard of Mao Mao Chong was there mixing classy bourbon cocktails next to an ice bowl full of mint julep mix”. If Stephanie has a hand in BBC, this place is already set to be on every cocktail connoisseur’s radar.
LDS Snapshots of BBC Bar:
An impressive line-up, BBC doesn’t mess around with their bitters
(which will be supplied by Max Levy of Okra Works)
Beautifully and brilliantly designed, their cast iron door can be wheeled out and tucked against their side wall display to open up the entrance even more while simultaneously adding to the bar’s interior decor
BBC’s back bar (also features a slick, sliding cast iron door)
Located across from Big Smoke Bistro off Xingfucun Zhong Lu, BBC is tucked in the little strip of F&B venues: Bob’s Wine, Frost, Commix and Back Alley Bistro.
Not just about booze, apparently they will also be offering straight razor shaves and shoe shine services soon as well!
Stay tuned for when LDS returns for an actual taste!
