BJ FOoDiEs: “ROOTS” Charity Dinner at Pinotage

Posted: August 30th, 2012 | Author: LumDimSum | Filed under: Foodies & Dining Scene | Tags: BJ Foodies, Cape Town, Chef Amber, Jane Goodall, Jane Goodall Institute, Pinotage, South Africa, South African cuisine, The Rainbow Nation, Xixi Cheng | No Comments »

After spending a week in Cape Town as part of a 30-day tax break forced holiday (the best kind!), I fell in love with South Africa.

Often referred to as The Rainbow Nation, South Africa is an multi-ethnic nation with eleven official languages. They have offer the most stunning landscape scenery with both gorgeous ocean views, mountain backdrops and sunsets like you wouldn’t believe. More than the cultural diversity, amazing wildlife and captivating natural beauty, their food and wine is among the best I’ve tasted in the world. I dare say that Cape Town has the best steak and beef burger I’ve ever had.

I have not been to Pinotage before, but this is Beijing’s first South African restaurant, offering plenty of meats, curries, South African specialty dishes and I hear their desserts are to-die-for.

So you can imagine my excitement to hear that BJ FOoDiEs next feast to ring in the fall season will be hosted at Pinotage.

“Pinotage is OUR FAVORITE secret destination for a perfect combo of amazing gastronomic cuisine, the most affordelicious wine list & chill-laxing venue (think huge patio overlooking lake filled with lotuses). Our Chef & good friend Amber has come up with a stunning Chef’s Tasting Menu of all her best South African dishes with amazing drink deals for the night. Please TRUST us when we say that this meal is worth the trip out, it’s located right across from WAB International school & our favorite closest eatery when we want to spend a day away from the city.”  – Xixi Cheng, Founder of BJ FOoDiEs

And after looking through the menu Chef Amber has put together, Xixi really wasn’t joking when she said this is going to be a “lekker” meal (my favorite South African word).

Hungry Foodies will be happy to hear that Mare has prepared a menu of 8  dishes and 3 desserts and all for the standard RMB 120 for the set dinner menu + glass of house vino, beer, or soft drink. I’m crazy excited to get my fill of billtong, Bobotie, Boreworse, and Malva Pudding!!

Knowing that BJ FOoDiEs has arranged such a steal of a dinner deal for you this Sunday, please come prepared to donate a bit extra to this month’s charity of choice-  Bethel China, a charity organization that provides care, education, life skills & livelihood opportunities to blind and visually impaired orphans in China.

As seating is limited, it’s best to RSVP in advance: email bjfoodies@gmail.com.
