Yun Er Town 云洱小镇: LDS Choice for BJ’s Best Yunnan

The little brother of Dali Courtyard, Yun Er Town 云洱小镇 is opened by the same chef of Dali Courtyard and although it is not set within an open courtyard, you can dine on the rooftop with a great view of traditional Chinese hutong rooftops and the local neighborhood around you. With Dali always fully booked (it’s super tough to get a reservation these days!) and the inflation of their set menu prices (from RMB 100 to now RMB 128), I have found a new favorite destination for my Yunnan fix.
Don’t get me wrong, Dali Courtyard is not scaring me off with a bump of RMB 28, but Yun Er Town is not only just as delicious, they give you the freedom to order a la carte and the menu selection is as extensive as it is delicious.

Review of Yun Er Town 云洱小镇: Just north of intersection of Gulou and north end of Nanluoguxiang. 84 Beiluoguxiang, 北锣鼓巷84号, Tel: 8404-2407
Best Part:
- A convenient alternative to Dali Courtyard if you’re looking for quality Yunnan cuisine
- An extensive menu of different Yunnan specialties (including the amazing cheese squares we all can’t get enough of)
- Very reasonable prices
- Nice, simple decor indoors
- Beautiful rooftop terrace with both open and enclosed dining spaces over-looking a sea of traditional Chinese hutong rooftops
Comments:
- Dali orders for you and Yun Er Town almost gives too much to choose from!
- Service was mediocre, not very helpful in recommending dishes
- Definitely take advantage of their rooftop should weather be permitting
- I hear their pu’er tea is excellent
Rating: (on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being best)
- Food: 8
- Atmosphere: 8
- Service: 6
- Overall Experience: 7
