Think you’re gungho for Gungho! Pizza?
I was already one of their biggest fans, thinking I knew what it meant to be gungho for Gungho!
…that was before I went into their Gongti restaurant for the first time where I got to wear one of their signature hot pink Gungho! trucker hats, see Gungho! delivery boys running and shouting “Go! Go! Go!” as they rush in and out of the store, got to step behind the front counter and witness them make my pizza, my salad, and the best part? The honor of having Mr. Jade Gray himself to share my meal with me.
Now that is a real Gungho! experience.

LumDimSum Snapshots of ‘The Real Gungho! Experience’:

Fresh ingredients from the lettuce for their salads to their home-made pasta noodles

…and the final product:

House Salad: Tuna, soft boiled eggs, kalamata olives, watermelon radish, yellow cherry tomatoes, homemade croutons, red wine vinaigrette (Medium RMB 30, Large RMB 50)

Medium-Sized Half ‘n’ Half Pizza with Organic Wholewheat Crust: 1/2 Chicken & Camembert (Grilled herb chicken and wine soaked blackcurrants topped with chunks of Camembert cheese and a fresh herb blend) and 1/2 Baby Squid (Fresh herb base, mozza cheese blend, lemon aioli and basil adorned with fresh baby squid) – (RMB 65)
I’m a huge fan of their organic wholewheat crust pizzas with my favorite flavors so far being their Pumpkin & Sweet Potato Pizza and Chicken & Camembert Pizza. Their homemade spinach pastas and healthy, hearty giant salads are also winners. Next time I’ll have to try some of their new desserts, especially their Double Chocolate Fudge Brownies: Thick Swiss chocolate and walnut brownies with crushed Snickers crust (RMB 15)
While their restaurant is quite a small space with limited seating (I would call ahead if you plan to come with a group of friends), it’s as full of fun personality as their brand exudes. (*Of course it was an extra bonus to have Jade as my host.) AND if you’re lucky, they may even let you wear one of their hot pink Gungho! hats.
Gungho! totally gets quality customer service and that’s huge in Beijing. From the way they answer the phone for delivery calls (they keep all numbers in an organized database so when I call, they greet me by my name when they answer the phone), to the way they encourage each other as a team (they yell out “Go! Go! Go! to all delivery boys as they rush out for orders) and their Money Back Guarantee just speaks volumes for itself.
At the end of this trip, I realized a few things about Gungho! Pizza that I wouldn’t have known otherwise – more than just great gourmet pizzas, everything about Gungho!’s incredibly enthusiastic company culture to their high-quality ingredients and playful marketing gimmicks is full-on Gungho!
Mad respect to what Jade and John are building in Beijing. Great plans are in the works with Gungho! quickly expanding and I can’t wait to see what they have up their sleeves!
