Beijing’s Own YoghurtLand: Cherry House Frozen Yogurt

Posted: March 1st, 2010 | Author: LumDimSum | Filed under: Foodies & Dining Scene | Tags: dessert | No Comments »

Screen shot 2010-02-28 at 9.39.41 PMIf you’re from the US, then you should know Yogurtland.

I’m obsessed with Yogurtland.

It just blew up within the past 2 years, but  they’ve been around since 2004 with locations in California, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Arizona, Japan, and Mexico.

The concept is brilliant – serving fat free frozen yogurt in dozens of delicious flavors to choose from – classic original, vanilla and Dutch chocolate to New York Cheesecake, Double Cookies & Cream, Tiramisu, Smores, Gingerbread, Pumpkin Pie, Butterfinger, etc.

And it doesn’t stop there.  Once you select your frozen yogurt flavor of choice (with all the free samples you want), you can add all the toppings you can dream of from a variety of fresh fruit, mochi, granola, nuts, gummy bears, cheesecake bits, cookie dough, brownie bits, cookies, chocolate bars, cereal, etc.  So you can either go healthy or satisfy your sweet-tooth.

By mixing nuts, fruits, cereal, and candy with your own selection of Frozen Yogurt, you become the architect of your own creation. Think Coldstone, but with frozen yogurt. And the best part:  you pay based on weight.  yogurtland1

And on to the good news – I found a place similar to Yogurtland in Beijing!

Called Cherry House with location in Solana, they have a similar set up to Yogurtland, but on a smaller scale with 6 different frozen yogurt flavors (Original, Vanilla, Chocolate, Banana, Mango, Melon) and about 16 different toppings with 8 different canned fruits and 8 different dry toppings (granola, white and milk chocolate chips, crushed oreo cookie, coconut flakes, M&M’s, raisins, and sprinkles).

The price of the soft-serve in Cherry House is based according to weight at a rate of 9.9 yuan for every 100 grams.  Expect to pay approx. RMB 20 depending on how much frozen yogurt and toppings you choose you fill your bowl.

Best Part:

  • It’s like a mini-Yogurtland!
  • Convenient do-it-yourself set-up
  • You can sample all the flavors before you have to pick one
  • I recommend the Vanilla, Mango, and Banana flavors

Comments:

  • It’s not up to the same standards as the Yogurtlands I’ve visited in California – not as many flavors of frozen yogurt, not as many toppings, no fresh fruit and its a smaller store.
  • The place is called Cherry House, but there are no cherry flavors or anything related to cherries…which I find odd.
  • Their brochure said they should also have strawberry and coffee flavors, but they were not there.  The store also did not serve any fresh fruit, which is maybe due to slow business in the winter time. I think they compensate by also serving hot cherry house2drinks (coffee, hot chocolate, etc.)
  • I can’t believe this has not been written about or talked about more – which leads me to conclude they have done little to no marketing, which is unfortunate.
  • Even though it’s not Yogurtland, I’ll take what I can get and I’m stoked I found Cherry House in Solana.
