LUMDIMSUM'S TOP 5 PICKS

King of Pop

Posted: November 4th, 2009 | Author: LumDimSum | Filed under: A Day In My Life | 1 Comment »

Running with the theme of great steals this month, I just found out that movies at Mega are 1/2 price on Tuesdays!!

With the Michael Jackson music documentary “This Is It” only running for two weeks, I swooped on my chance to watch MJ in action last night.  this is it

I may not have been a die-hard fan or cried when I heard of Michael Jackson’s death, but I’ve always loved of his music (“Billie Jean” is my all-time favorite MJ track).  The best part about the documentary was that you got a real sense of the man, the way he worked, his wacky personality, and most of all – his gift for music and entertainment.  The documentary takes you through the backstage scenes in MJ’s preparation for his comeback tour in London.

“This Is It” Movie Review

Best Part:

  • You actually feel the urge to get up and dance along with MJ
  • You see him singing acapella, you see him in action working hands-on with his dancers, his musicians, his vocalists and creative director.
  • They feature all his greatest hits from “Smooth Criminal”, “Thriller”, “Billie Jean”, “Beat It”, “Black or White”, “They don’t really care about us” and even bringing you back to his days with the Jackson 5
  • You may see MJ’s humble and quite often awkward way of communicating, but you also see how talented he is and you see, he knows his shit
  • The documentary sends a powerful message about love and the consequences of global warming when he sings the “Earth Song” with a video clip of a child in a tropical landscape who wakes up to the forrest burned to ash by man.
  • His solo dance performance at the end of “Billie Jean” is killer and so proves my point that the man’s still got it!

Comments:

  • Movie really makes me wish I could have seen this concert live in London because it would have most likely been the best concert of all time
  • Since it was mostly backstage and rehearsal scenes, a lot of the movie Michael was “saving his voice” along with his famous dance moves
  • In the documentary, you see how skinny he is and I have to admit, he really does look quite creepy.
  • They should have an option to watch this version and an extended version – I think with over 100 hours of video, they could easily make a 3 hour documentary…and I’d opt for that one.

Movie runs from Oct. 29-Nov. 12 @ UME, Mega, Wanda, Jinyi

Let me just say, there’s a reason he’s the King of Pop, the man’s still got it, to the T.
